The Promenade in a Garden of Makeshift Wishes
- categorie Art/public space
A meander in a miners’ terraced housing complex, classified heritage site, interspersed by in-situ installations, sculptures, film projections, sound and visual artworks.
Les Pas Perdus, after three years of a artist residency program in the “Cité des Electricians” in Bruay-La-Buissière North of France co-create with 18 people – occasionals of art – inhabitants of the town and its surrounding region, a collective work from their imaginary, visual and sensitive projection of the environment of this ‘coron’ (miners’ terraced houses).
A promenade is materialized into a path of put together palettes in a delicately shifting and willing manner, like a flowery hedge running alongside a garden. It meanders through this housing complex, goes in houses by the windows and spring out by the doors, circulates from house to house creating passagers through the walls, maundering through the old garden plots…
In a space of 6000m2, the visitors discover, all along a pathway, a set of 23 sculptures and installations of which each associates one or several “occasional of art” with the artistic group Guy André Lagesse, Nicolas Barthélemy and Jérôme Rigaut. This exhibition was hosted within the framework of « À Ciel Ouvert » . Remarkable Coal Mining Heritage Sites and Contemporary Art – Bethune Regional Capital of Culture 2011.
